What to check on a Big White chalet

  • Snow and roofs. Ask about roof design, snow-load history, heat trace and who clears the driveway and roof. Snow removal is a real annual cost.
  • Heating and utilities. Water, sewer and propane come from Big White Utilities. Ask for 12 months of bills, including a full winter.
  • Suites and rentals. Many owners rent part or all of a chalet. Check zoning, the provincial short-term rental registry, and any strata or building-scheme rules. See short-term rentals.
  • Ski access. Some streets ski right to a lift; others need a short walk or a shuttle. Walk it before you buy.
  • Newer builds. Ask about the home warranty, GST and completion dates on new construction in areas such as Feathertop and Black Forest.
