Buying a condo at Big White: what to check

  • Bedrooms and sleeping space. Two- and three-bedroom units with a flexible loft or bunk room are the most popular with families and renters. Studios and one-bedrooms are the entry point.
  • Strata documents. Ask for two years of minutes, the bylaws and rules, the depreciation report, financial statements and the Form B. Older Village buildings may have big projects coming.
  • Rental rules. Big White is exempt from B.C.’s principal-residence rule, but some stratas limit rentals or require a particular manager. See short-term rentals at Big White.
  • Ski access. “Ski-in/ski-out” can mean very different things. Walk the route in ski boots. See ski-in/ski-out explained.
  • Parking and storage. Heated underground parking, ski lockers and boot rooms make a real difference in a snowy winter.
